Vice I
September 1rst
My first experience at school:
I think at first I felt a certain fear as most as we know from everything we hear on television and even our own experience in schools, the situation is complicated, but I felt relieved and almost lucky to know that going to work with children from the first stage, my courses are a first grade and second grade. But it was something really random'm convinced that problems in education either violence, bullying, school dropout and even problems like lack of motivation are presented in this level and this is where I'd like to focusi this My first experience . I would like to understand what are the problems.
Students: 29
Missing : 10 ( most of them sick with flu)
The teacher introduce me to the students...they seems to be very friendly and they are very interested in my person they look at me a lot, but in a nice way...I think they are kind of used to ,to practicing teachers.
There is no seat in the back of the room so I have to sit next to the most controversial child of course, his table is attached to the board but still moves a lot and writes little about anything. I am dedicated to listening.
Start the class with the appropriate greeting in English, after that the teacher makes them work with an English book called "Magic 1" which also comes with an audio This book is buyed by the parents and most of the children work very well with it ...exept for the children that don't have it. The teacher is working to keep calm but they quickly become deconcentrated and something (that caught my attention)was that they are too noisy really extremely,I have kids, but I have to admit that this is like a headache, But I think that I' m going to get used to that, if they want to say something stand on chairs or just stand out there are many children moving around the room like circular and constant.
September 2nd
Students from 2nd grade.
The work day was very interesting, diferent. I was a bit more relaxed than de first day, and could sit down at the end of the room which allow me to have a better observation of what going on in the classroom, the children that day were very interested too in the activity. The activity was a sort of "bet" between the teacher and students, it caught my attention when the teacher came into the room and most of the students quickly kept her stuffed animals, and other more daring approached by themselves to leave their stuffed animals as part of a bet, mixing work with play, whether children had allegedly lost her stuffed animals and if they won the prize was a 7 to book . For tht reason all worked answering questions in English concepts of naming items (in, under, on, near,) so There was a party atmosphere all the time but often overflowed this incredible energy and the teacher made them sing a song that everyone could jump as they want fly and swim under the chair down the chai so the kids drives craizy but aftar that they would relaxfor another 10 minutes of work and then disorder again its really amaizing and I can see that the teacher has been working very well for years she knows how to handle disorder situations without shouting which is really difficult for the teachers in general.
The child who sits next to me is troubled, the teacher tells me to take tranquilizers but she says that the parents does not give them and that's why he behaves this way, the child have the book but he is worried about an album and is constantly aware of that and to draw it is as if he was disconnected from the rest of the group.
There is another child who answers all the time was easily identified and others have a habit of go and to copy him during work class and even in testing.
September 3th
It's the same activity but another grup. They don't brig stuffed animals
We work the same unit as the previous day, the teacher keeps telling them about the same but in this course work is different, very decentralized children they come from physical education class so, they are still agitated, the room air is heavy. There are other children doing physical education and there are a lot of noise in the yard they look out the window, talk, do not keep track of the work, so the teacher work with only 5 children that are about pending and others are not written or attentive.
The teacher is putting a terrible audio, which is barely heard and they do not like to hear it because they say that they do not understand anything, the teacher explains that he is a native speaker and that they should get used to hearing that.
September 6 th
I am not sure if is by the circumstance of that this school is individual subsidized that I find too many differences between some children and other, there are children that come to the school in excellent conditions, that is to say, clean, with its materials and other not, the boy that is seated to the side me told me that cannot work because he is too sleepy and I ask that to that hour remained asleep and it tells me that at 12 o'clock at night, to my seems me that does not correspond that a boy sleep less hours that affects him enormously. I have a 6 years old son and is hard to wake up in the morning, still when he sleep approxinately 10 hours, but he has classmates that in the morning is a fight, the kids cry and of course they are of very badly huymor at school and is terrible for them, I try to understand that maybe the parents came home late and they...I don't know..want to have time wiht the kids but they have to think in the kids neccessity not their's.
September 9
2nd grade
A boy talks with me and I ask him that how goes him in English and he tells me that well, then I ask him something of what were seeing and he tells me: I don't know, I just copy from the board.
September 10
1rst grade
Theme "welcome spring". The children mention things of the spring (birds, butterfly, tree, flowers) after that the teacher tell the student that they have to look an image for some seconds, after that they should close the eyes and to say what they saw they work for row they go winning point and in the end a winning row leaves. After that the children paint a drawing of the spring. Time of rest for the teacher and very kindly, she offers me a cup of tea:)
September 13
Upon arriving at the school I see that the teacher carries a student almost hanging of an arm, the situation is really very complicated I've never seen a so small student really out of control, hiting tried to bite the hand of the teacher shouting and crying they removed it of the room. After that i asked to a boy what is wrong with her??And the boy answered me: she is completely craizy. I feel very badly for her.
September 22
The teacher ask the children details of the festival of local customs that was carried out in the school as activity of the independence days. She congratulates them for its performance. Later works in the book. The teacher comments me that recently she was evaluated by the Sub- Director of the establishment. All the professors are evaluated once to the year whether for the Director or in their defect the Sub- Director. In this occasion the Sub- Director told her that she was well...but the suggestion was to reinforce more the contents. At the end of the class 3 girls want to show me the performance that they did in the festival. Was to nice.
September 23
The day begins with some very restless children after the recess of independence days, then the teacher instead of shouting, explains them that she is sick of the throat and for that reason she is going to speak low in order to they should be remained quiet to be able to listen it.
Tony: It is a restless very happy boy the majority of the times participates but many times he said things so that the others students laugh. When I entered to the room he was the unique one wiht a ship of role in the head but showed the other children that the ship did not fall because of the adhesive that he had put in it..so the others students did it too. It was very funny because the teacher did not realized of that until they were lots of ships in the heads.
When the teacher saw that, she did not think that was funny and she said that Tony seems like a whale under the ship:(
September 24
Contained Present Continuous
The teacher explains the concept of present continous and she says that we cannot speak without using it, since we would seem to as tarzán speacks..the children found it funny and they begin to speak like tarzán, so that produced disorder quickly.. the teacher tries to order them singing them the song :Yo hablo inglés español también canta conmigo y lo vas a aprender nadando swiming, saltando jumping...etc and thus they throw away a little energy I think so after that they start to work again concentrated, they need too much to be moved.
